Nearly a year after the show was cancelled, Lucasfilm and Disney announced today that the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be available on Netflix. The episodes will be the first Star Wars content ever available for streaming and will be up on Match 7.
The show was cancelled in March 2013, as Disney continued to consolidate Lucasfilm’s divisions under one roof. Lucasfilm Animation’s other key project, the Seth Green parody series Detours, was also cancelled before an episode even aired.
Disney and Netflix announced that the final season will include 13 episodes and is dubbed The Lost Missions. In addition, the previous five seasons will be available on Netflix, along with the 90-minute theatrical film. Several episodes will be available in director’s cut form, many of which have never aired on TV.
"Stars Wars is one of the most iconic franchises of all time and this series joins a long line of Disney content that Netflix members are and will continue to enjoy for years to come," Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer, said. "The Clone Wars marks an important moment as Netflix welcomes more and more first-run content from The Walt Disney Company and its subsidiaries."
This isn’t the first time Disney and Netflix have stuck a pact. In December 2012, the two companies signed a multi-year licensing deal to bring its animated classics to the service and in November 2013, Disney’s Marvel agreed to produce four exclusive shows for Netflix.
