Director John Singleton will direct a biopic about rapper Tupac Shakur.

Singleton said told The Hollywood Reporter, "Tupac was the guy who I planned to do a lifetime of films with. His passing deeply affected my life as well as countless people in this world. His life story is as important to my generation."

Singleton became known for his films Boyz ‘n the Hood and Poetic Justice. Singleton directed the film, Rosewood, Shaft, Four Brothers, and Abduction.

Shakur starred as Lucky opposite of Janet Jackson in Poetic Justice. Singleton enjoyed working with Shakur and planned to shoot many movies with him. Singleton will write, direct, and produce the biopic. Morgan Creek will be financing the movie, in collaboration with Randall Emmett and George Furla's Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films, according to Variety.

A controversial figure, Tupac Shakur was a rapper known for his albums, 2Pacalypse Now, Me Against the World, All Eyez on Me, and Thug Life. Other than Poetic Justice, he was also in the films Juice and Bullet. Tupac’s life was noted in the film Tupac: Resurrection, released in 2003.
