U.S. sweeps podium in men’s slopestyle skiing

The U.S. men competed so well in the slopestyle skiing event that they swept the podium, taking the gold, silver and bronze medals.

ESPN reported that Joss Christensen won the gold medal in his Olympic debut and teammates Gus Kenworthy and Nick Goepper nabbed the silver and bronze medals on Thursday.

The New York Times noted that Christensen won the event with a score of 95.80. American teammate and childhood friend, Kenworthy earned the silver with a score of 93.60. And fellow American Goepper scored 92.40 to take the bronze.

The 22-year-old Christensen, who was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, scored in the 90s in each of his runs.

"I am shocked," he said. "I am stoked to be up here with my friends. America, we did it."

This year was the first-ever Olympic men’s ski slopestyle competition and the skiers competed in balmy conditions at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park. It was so warm that American Bobby Brown, who finished ninth, did his final run in short sleeves.
