A New York man was arrested Friday after allegedly threatening to kill former President George W. Bush.
The man, 44-year-old Benjamin Smith, was found in his car in with multiple weapons after reports that he threatened to harm Bush to get to his daughter, Barbara Bush. According to ABC News, police were notified by Smith’s mother after she found a letter in their home in which Smith stated he had “to slay a dragon.”
Officials were able to find Smith by tracking his cell phone. He was found in Manhattan around 6 a.m. on Friday. According to a criminal complaint that was filed, Smith screamed while he was being arrested, yelling, “Bush will get his!”
NBC News reports that Smith told authorities he was divorced, but “working on a relationship with Barbara Bush.”
Lawyers in Smith’s defense are arguing that Smith did not make any real threats towards the ex-President. Threatening a President is considered to be a federal crime.
Former President Bush was not in New York during the time of the arrest.
