Benjamin Smith, 44, of upstate New York was arrested Friday in Manhattan after he was found heavily armed in his car.
According to ABC News, Smith yelled "Bush will get his," after being arrested.
Found in his car was a machete, rifle, gasoline, and two boxes of ammonization. Smith's mother alerted law enforcement officials Thursday after she found a startling note in their home, and her rifle was missing.
The note allegedly read "I'm going to work for George W. Bush and the pentagon. I have to slay a dragon and Barbara Bush is mine."
Smith was found by the secret service by tracking his cell phone, where they found him around 6 a.m. in Manhattan.
Smith fixated on Barbara during questioning, and when asked about his marital status, responded "I am divorced and not currently seeing anyone, but I am working on a relationship with Barbara Bush."
According to Reuters, Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrea Grisworld told U.S. Magistrate Henry Pitman to government believed that Smith was referring to Bush's daughter.
To threaten a current or former president is a crime under federal law.
