Matthew McConaughey will be co-staring with Ken Watanabe in the upcoming Gus Van Sant's project, Sea of Trees.

Van Sant will direct the film and Chris Sparling has written the script for Sea of Trees. Not much is known about this project at the time but it is being described as an suicidal American man, who befriends a man lost in a forest near Mt. Fuji. McConaughey will be playing the suicidal American and Watanabe will be playing the Japanese man that he befriends, Variety reported.

Van Sant is known around the world for his directing work and most recently made the film, Promise Land which stared Matt Damon.

McConaughey took the role in Sea of Trees following his nomination for best actor at this year's upcoming Oscar ceremony for his work on Dallas Buyers Club.

The actor will also be seen in the latest film from Christopher Nolan, Interstellar, which is set to be released on November 7th, The Guardian added.

No release date for Sea of Trees has been announced.
