The decision as to who would be the new CEO of Microsoft has been made. After a 22-year career with Microsoft, Satya Nadella has been named CEO. This comes after the August announcement from CEO Steve Balmer that he would be stepping down.
According to CNN, Microsoft has been struggling with sales and the transition to a new CEO was filled with missteps. However, Bill Gates, despite stepping down as Chair, will be helping Nadella as a technology advisor. Nadella has worked with Microsoft in overseeing services such as Cloud and Skype
Of his new role, Nadella said, “I couldn’t be more honored to have been chosen to lead the company. The opportunity ahead for Microsoft is vast, but to seize it, we must focus clearly, move faster, and continue to transform.”
There have been concerns from analysts over Nadella’s ability to lead Microsoft. According to Reuters, while his background with Microsoft has been a plus in achieving steps toward Microsoft’s future, there is concern about making sure consumers and shareholders are confident in his abilities.
Many of Microsoft’s products are not available for mobile technologies, such as the iPad, and analysts find this a concern with the company’s chance of success.
Analyst David Smith with Gartner, a tech research firm, suggested Nadella should “take a fresh look at mobile, or bring in some talent who really understands the space.”
