A military transport plane crashed on Tuesday, killing at least 102 people on board, with the possibility of one person having survived the crash.
News is still coming in about the crash, but Algerian Colonel Lahmadi Bouguern spoke with APS state news agency and said that there were 103 total passengers aboard the plane, reports Reuters.
There were four crew members and 99 passengers, which consisted of a mix between armed forces members and their families. The official death count has "yet to be determined."
Haaretz notes it is possible that one person did survive the plane crash, at least, according to an Algerian civil defense commander.
The cause of the plane crash is not yet known, but it is believed that the weather might have played a part and that witnesses claim to have seen the plane hit part of a mountain as it was flying.
The military plane had taken off from Tamanrasset province and was heading towards Constantine, when the plane crashed in the mountain region of the Oum El Bouaghi province.
