A Missouri school coach has been charged in the death of a 10-year-old Missouri girl.

Police found Hailey Owen's body in the home of Craig Michael Wood and worked quickly to bring him up on charges, reports Reuters. The 45-year-old was charged with first-degree murder, child kidnapping and armed criminal action.

Greene County prosecutor Dan Patterson said, "To apprehend this offender in just over three hours is a remarkable response." He added, "It is a tragedy that it was not quick enough to save Hailey. But I don't believe there is anything else they could have done in this case."

According to CNN, police found Wood after an Amber Alert was issued as someone reported seeing the 10-year-old pulled into a gold Ford Ranger as she was on her way to a friend's house.

Wood worked for Springfield Public School's Pleasant View K-8 School as an athletic coach, while Hailey attended Westport Elementary School. Police are not sure yet if Wood knew the girl before he snatched her.

Reuters notes that when police identified the car as Woods, they found Hailey's body in his basement. She had ligature marks and was clearly shot in the head.
