After nine years since Missy Elliott’s last album, she sat down with Yahoo!’s “The Yo Show” to discuss what she’s going to be bringing to the table since her 2005 album The Cookbook.

“When I create something, it’s got to be special, and it can’t just be to throw something out there because I feel like I’m Missy,” the hip-hop/R&B veteran said. “I got to feel like what I’m giving the fans is 100% and that it’s game-changing. I don’t just throw out microwave records.”

When asked if she has been experiencing a writer’s block, Missy denied that as her reason for being on hiatus. While she stated that there is a point where everyone goes a writer’s block, this hasn’t been the case. She explained that she has been going for things to inspire her. She joked asking, “How many times are we gonna talk about the club?”

“Just being inspired by things is what I’m grabbing for,” Missy said. “It’s different now, so I’m just trying to make sure that what I give is 100 percent because I know that expectations is high from my fans, and it’s high of myself.”

Missy then confirmed that she will be working with former-roommate Faith Evans on Evan’s upcoming album.

When prompted to know when she’ll be releasing her new work, she laughed. “It’s coming, it’s coming. I’m just ain’t telling nobody when.”
