Mourners will be able to share their sorrow for legendary flamenco guitarist, Paco de Lucia. The body of the world-renowned flamenco guitarist has arrived in Madrid.
Paco De Lucia died suddenly of a heart attack at age 66. De Lucia is remembered by his peers. According to Billboard, Carlos Santana tweeted, “The Maestro King of Gypsy Flamenco Music is in heaven NOW.”
According to the Associated Press, mourners will be able to file past the casket for several hours at Madrid’s National Auditorium music center. De Lucia’s body will be taken to Algeciras for a public wake overnight and burial Saturday. The wake is expected to draw a large crowd in the city. De Lucia is originally from Alegeciras.
De Lucia revolutionized flamenco guitar. Renowned for his skill in flamenco, de Lucia modernized flamenco by introducing from other musical forms like jazz, bossa nova, classical and salsa.
De Lucia was in the middle of working on his 30th album, entitled “Canciones Andaluzas.”
