Mozilla Company to join smartphone market with $25 prototype

Mozilla may join Windows and Apple with a new smartphone, reports are saying.

The company that is originally known for the Internet browser, Mozilla Firefox, will supposedly run apps and run on the Internet. However, it will not be as powerful as other more expensive models BBC, reports.

The company is partnering with Chinese inexpensive chipmakers, Spreadtrum. The plan will appeal to people who buy cheaper phones who do not want simple phones but who do not full-fledged smartphones, either.

This current smartphone prototype is allegedly going to be sold for $25.

According to Boomberg Technology, Mozilla’s chief operating officer, Jay Sullivan, unveiled the plan in Barcelona on Sunday, Feb. 23.

“We are about bringing people online,” he said in the introduction.

Mozilla is trying to reduce the public’s use of Google Inc.’s Android phones, and Apple’s iPhone’s who dominate the smartphone market. By creating cheaper, fully functioning “reference device” phones, they plan on joining in on the competition.
