A documentary on Nas' debut album, Illmatic, is scheduled to open the Tribeca Film Festival in April.
The Associated Press reports that the documentary, entitled Time is Illmatic, is scheduled to open the 13th Annual Tribeca Film Festival on April 16.
The documentary covers the makind and development of Nas' debut album, Illmatic, which was released almost 20 years ago in April 1994. After the screening, Nas is scheduled to perform the full album.
The New York Daily News reports that this will be the second year that the festival opened with a music film. Last year, indie rock band, The National, opened the festival with their film Mistaken For Strangers.
Nas' documentary ws directed by One9, a multimedia artist, and written by Erik Parker.
Nas expressed his gratitude for being chosen for this event in a statement.
"I want to thank the Tribeca Film Festival for supporting the film with the incredible platform they've built over the years," Nas said. "It's an honor to premiere this film in my hometown."
The Tribeca Film Festival will run from April 16-27, and the full line-up will be announced in March.
