Authorities said that a Newlywed woman has died attempting a BASE jump in Utah’s Zion National Park.

According to the Associated Press, Amber Bellows fell about 2,000 feet and plunged to her death attempting the jump.

The 28-year-old Bellows and her 29-year-old husband Clayton Butler, hiked together through the park on Saturday. She attempted the jump before him and when he jumped he could not immediately get to her.

CNN reported that a rescue team reached Bellows Sunday morning and used a helicopter to airlift her body from the terrain to an ambulance.

The newlyweds had only been married for two weeks.

BASE jumping is widely considered a dangerous and extreme sport and has caused over 200 fatalities. Jumpers attempting the stunt spring from stationary objects and rely on parachutes to break their fall.

The AP notes that Bellows parachute did not openly correctly.

"It is just really sad, and our condolences go out to her family and friends," said Acting Superintendent of the park Jim Milestone.
