Olivia Newton-John has announced that she’ll be heading to Las Vegas for a residency at Flamingo Las Vegas. It will be her first performances since her sister, Rona, died of brain cancer last year.
Back in April 2013, Newton-John pushed back her LAs Vegas residency after her sister was diagnosed with brain cancer. Rona died a month later.
Newton-John, a breast cancer survivor herself, told Entertainment Tonight that there was a time she didn’t think she would perform again, but time has been a “wonderful healer” for the Grease actress.
“It doesn't heal everything but singing for me is my way of healing and it always has been,” she told ET. “Whenever I've gone through difficult times in my life music is what has helped me get through and [Rona] was always there for me, so I know, that I need to keep singing, she didn’t want me to stop.”
Today, Newton-John appeared on NBC’s Today Show to announce plans to reschedule her Vegas residency. She will open on Tuesday, April 8 at the Flamingo’s Donny & Marie Showroom and tickets go on sale this Friday.
I am thrilled to be able to call Las Vegas home for a while,” Newton-John said in a statement. “I have performed here many times through the years and have had nothing but wonderful memories and I look forward to even more fun at the Flamingo. I am especially thrilled that a portion of every ticket sold will benefit the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre.”
The show is named after one of her best-known hits, “Summer Nights” from Grease. She’s also known for the hit “Physical” and the Xanadu soundtrack.
