While it is completely understandable to invite two-time Oscar nominee Bette Midler to the Oscars to perform, it really doesn’t make sense to have Pink there. Yet, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have invited the “Just Give Me A Reason” singer to perform at the 86th Academy Awards.

“We are very excited to welcome Pink to the Oscar stage for the very first time,” the producers said in a statement. “She is regarded as one of the greatest voices in pop music and one of the best performers of her generation, and we are thrilled to have her join us for a highly anticipated moment on the broadcast.”

Obviously, Zadan and Meron would not say what that “highly anticipated” moment is. The singer only has six acting credits to her name, including the 2013 comedy Thanks For Sharing, which wasn’t nominated for anything and didn’t exactly light up the box office.

On Wednesday, the Academy announced that Midler would perform for the first time in her legendary career. It’s not known what she will perform.

Although the Oscars will not have an official “Musical” theme this year, there will still be a lot of music. All four Best Original Song nominees will be performed, which means that U2 and Pharrell Williams will be there. The 1939 classic musical The Wizard of Oz will also get a special tribute. Perhaps Midler or Pink will sing “Over The Rainbow.”

We won’t know exactly what the two singers will do until March 2, when the Oscars air live on ABC. Ellen Degeneres is hosting.
