Maryland authorities have caught a break and identified a person of interest in an almost 40-year-old cold case.
According to CBS News, police have identified a convicted child sex offender as a person of interest in the case of two sisters who disappeared back in 1975.
Montgomery County investigators are looking to question the person who is currently serving time behind bars in another state prison.
The two young girls, Shelia and Katherine Lyon seemed to have vanished after not returning home from a shopping center near their house in the suburbs of Washington, DC.
CNN notes that the girl’s older brother, Jay Lyon, saw them eating pizza at the mall and then walking in the direction of their family home when they were done. He later became a homicide detective.
The sisters’ father, John Lyon, was a well-known radio personality in the area and used his high profile to plead with the public for tips. However, no tips ever led to his 12 and 10-year-old daughters.
Police believe the information they receive from the person of interest could crack the case wide open.
