A privacy protection phone app accidently came upon an unknown bug with Facebook that could cause millions to have their accounts hacked.

MyPermissions found the bug while testing their apps ability. CEO Olivier Amar states that the glitch in Facebook could expose all of its users to identity theft.

“We really didn’t believe it at first,” Amar told Yahoo. “Any application that uses Facebook to connect can be shut down.”

The bug doesn’t affect Facebook’s website directly, but rather the many apps that are available on the site that require privacy permission before being used. With the glitch, hackers could potentially block someone from accessing their own account for hours on end, allowing them time to track all of their private information.

“We have a former hacker that works for us,” Amar said. “He told us that this is something he absolutely would have used.”

According to the Venture Capital Post, Facebook is working to resolve the glitch issue in their system.

The issue will hopefully be resolved this week.
