Three people were killed Sunday night after a private airplane crashed on its way to Cortez, Colorado.
According to The Coloradoan, the plane crashed roughly one mile from the Telluride Regional Airport where it departed from at 11:20 am. Local officials found the damaged aircraft at approximately 5:17 pm. No passengers were said to have survived the accident.
San Miguel County Sheriff Bill Masters said in a press release that a search for the aircraft took place at 12:40 pm.
“This is certainly not the outcome we were hoping for,” Masters said. “It’s just a terrible, terrible tragedy.”
NBC News reports that a reason for the accident has not yet been confirmed. Further investigation into the crash will begin on Monday.
Names of the victims have not yet been released. Sheriff Masters stated that information will be given once the families have been made aware of the accident.
