Richard Linklater is presenting his most recent film at the Berlin International Film Festival. Linklater’s new movie Boyhood is vying for the Golden Bear Award this year.

Linklater told the Associated Press, “I had the architecture of the whole piece in mind, but then every year we got this gestation period of a year to think about each segment. I had faith that it would all add up that it would have a cumulative effect," he said.”

Linklater’s previous films include Fast Food Nation, SubUrbia, A Scanner Darkly, and Me and Orson Welles. Linklater wrote and directed his latest film, Boyhood. Boyhood is about a young man named Mason. Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette are in the film.

Twenty movies, including Boyhood are in the running for the Golden Bear prize that will be given on Saturday. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Linklater will be competing against Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel and Edward Berger’s Jack. British director Ken Loach will be receiving a Golden Bear on Thursday in recognition of his work since the 1960s.
