After the success of Ride Along over the past two months, it seemed inevitable that Universal would want a sequel and now the wheels of Ice Cube’s cop car are already in motion. Both Ice Cube and comedian Kevin Hart are expected to return.

On Tuesday, Deadline confirmed that Ride Along 2 is now in the works. Ice Cube and Will Packer’s Cube Vision will produce and writers Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi will also be back. Production could start as soon as June or July and the script is already in the final polishing stages. The site notes that it should bring in more action and will be ‘multi-cultural’ in an attempt to make the film more friendly to international audiences.

The original Ride Along, which opened on Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, has shown incredible staying power. As Box Office Mojo shows, the movie has already passed $120 million worldwide, although only $3.4 million of that so far is from foreign receipts. The film opened to $41.5 million and only cost Universal $25 million to make.

Hart also stars in About Last Night, which opened to $27.8 million over this past weekend. He’s also going to be seen in Will Ferrell’s Get Hard.
