Rihanna is revealing that she almost went bankrupt back in 2009 and she’s blaming it on her accountant. The “Stay” singer is currently one of the most successful singers and now has a net worth of $43 million.
In a lawsuit claiming gross mismanagement, Rihanna revealed she was "effectively bankrupt" five years ago despite having $11 million in cash at the beginning of the year.
According to TMZ, she claimed in the lawsuit that her accountant told her to purchase a home for over $7 million only to later sell it and lose $2 million. She also claimed that her Last Girl on Earth Tour was losing money but she was never notified about it.
The accounting firm, Berdon LLP, also took a 22 percent commission from the Barbados-born singer. They claimed it was her "own financial action or inaction" that landed her in financial turmoil in 2009.
Since 2010, her financial situation is looking much different. She made Forbes’ highest paid musicians list in 2012 and made $53 million that year.
HipHopDX reports she has also made Forbes’ 30 under 30 list.
