The Super Bowl is only days away and the FBI and New Jersey authorities are on alert after six hotels received envelopes containing "suspicious white powder," as well as a New Jersey post office. But so far the letters appear to be a hoax.

The envelopes were all sent to hotels that did not have either team staying there, according to a law enforcement source who spoke with NBC 4.

In addition to white powder, there was also the some identical message included inside of the envelopes. The white powder tested at one location was shown to be just baking powder.

USA Today reports that someone had originally called WABC-TV from an Econo Lodge and said someone else had opened an envelope that contained white powder.

N.J. State Police released a statement saying, "The Joint Terrorism Task Force and Hazard Materials units have responded to several locations that have received a suspicious letter and substance, there are no reported injuries at this time."

According to The New York Times, an envelope sent to a Homewood Suites was full of what turned out to be cornstarch.

Security levels are always heightened ahead of events like the Super Bowl, which is considered a Level 1 security event.
