Many computer programmers and web developers converge for what is called a “hackathon”, a collaborative effort usually with the goal to create a usable software. Guitar icon Slash is bringing his own version, being dubbed Slashathon to South By Southwest, SXSW, this year.

According to Loudwire Slashathon will be an “artist focused” hackathon challenging developers to “create solutions for artists to engage their communities for an album release.”

The competition is set to take place at Capitol Factory in Austin on March 12 during SXSW, giving the contestants twelve hours to create. The winning “hack” will also be used to launch Slash’s upcoming album, slated for release sometime later this year. The winning contestant will also win $1,000 and an autographed Gibson guitar by the legendary guitarist. Judges for the ‘Slashathon’ will include Slash himself, Bram Cohen, who is the Chief Scientist & Founder of BitTorrent, and Ben Parr, Co-founder & Managing Partner for DominateFund.

Slash has been keeping himself busy, along with finishing up his follow-up to the critically acclaimed Apocalyptic Love, Ultimate Classic Rock noted he, and several other high profile musicians including Sammy Hagar, Alice Cooper, and Slash’s GN’R & Velvet Revolver bandmate Matt Sorum, will be playing a multiple system atrophy, or MSA, benefit concert in Las Vegas. Dubbed Kerry Simon Says Fight MSA and takes place on February 27 at the Keep Memory Alive Center.
