The film adaptation of Stephen King’s post-apocalyptic epic novel The Stand will likely be directed by Josh Boone.
The Wrap reported that Boone is the most recent in a long line of directors who have been affiliated with the project. Scott Cooper, Ben Affleck and David Yates were previously attached to The Stand. The same report claims that this film adaptation will be R-rated and faithful to the source material.
First published in 1978, King’s novel tells the story of a group of survivors living in the aftermath of a plague that kills most of the world’s population, according to Variety.
The Stand was adapted before in 1994 as a television miniseries. Directed by Mick Garris, the ABC show starred Rob Lowe, Gary Sinise and Molly Ringwald.
Boone’s most recent project is the adaptation of John Green’s young adult novel The Fault In Our Stars, which is due to be released on June 6. The Hollywood Reporter noted that Boone is a lifelong fan of King’s work; the director defied his family’s ban on King’s novels by taping Christian book covers to the front of King books in order to disguise them.
Boone is repped by CAA.
