A new study found that yellow dyes may contain chemicals that can be bad for one’s health.
According to ABC News, the chemical, known as PCB 11, is commonly found in clothing, ink and paper. Rutgers University found in their study that the chemical could be linked to cancer and birth defects.
“We’re talking about the color yellow, which is in so many things,” mother Michelle Noehres said. “You can’t really shop your way out of that.”
PCBs have technically been banned from America, however some productions make the chemical without realizing it. Therefore, regulated that ban is difficult, and Congress has passed a loophole saying that the chemical is OK if the chemical was not intentionally made.
Take Part reports that a study done by the University of Iowa shows that PCB 11 can get into the air and therefore into one’s bloodstream, causing more issues.
Almost all the objects studied by Rutgers University had traces of PCB 11 in them.
