Turner Classic Movies announced several more additions to its TCM Classic Film Festival, including premieres of new restorations of classic films and additional guests.
Maureen O’Hara, 93, will be making an appearance to introduce How Green Was My Valley. The film was her first with director John Ford and also won the Best Picture Oscar of 1941, famously beating Citizen Kane. It will be shown in a new restoration.
Richard Dreyfuss is set to introduce The Goodbye Girl (1977) and Mr. Holland’s Opus (1995). He earned Oscar nominations for both films and won for The Goodbye Girl.
Mel Brooks will introduce his 1974 classic Blazing Saddles. Margaret O’Brien has also been tapped to introduce the 1944 Judy Garland classic Meet Me in St. Louis.
Other new screenings announced today include world premieres of restorations of Frank Capra’s Mr. Deeds Goes To Town (1936); Stormy Weather (1943); The Beatles film A Hard Day’s Night (1964); and the original Godzilla (1954). A 50th anniversary screening of Disney’s Mary Poppins was also added.
The Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra will accompany a screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1927 film The Lodger. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Little Tramp, Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights will also be shown.
Other celebrities signed up to appear at the festival include Jerry Lewis and Quincy Jones. The festival is scheduled for April 10-13 in Hollywood.
