Ted Nugent has put Republicans in an uncomfortable position again after using inflammatory rhetoric to criticize President Barack Obama’s policies. Texas Gov. Rick Perry condemned Nugent’s comments.
Nugent has returned to the headlines after he did a Guns.com interview last month, in which he called Obama a “subhuman mongrel.” He then called Democrat Wendy Davis “repulsive” while campaigning for her opponent in the Texas gubernatorial race, Republican Greg Abbott.
The Houston Chronicle notes that Perry said these type of comments should not surprise anyone who follows Nugent’s antics. Still, he told CNN that he doesn’t condone those words.
“I got a problem calling the president a mongrel. I do have a problem with that,” he said. “That is an inappropriate thing to say.”
Abbott has not commented on Nugent, but Davis has seized the opportunity to send emails to supporters about his links to Nugent.
“Ted Nugent calls Greg Abbott his ‘blood brother.’ I call their alliance repulsive,” Davis says in one email, notes Politico. “I find Ted Nugent disgusting, and I find it disgusting that Greg Abbott is sharing a stage with him.”
Meanwhile, Media Matters notes that Nugent was supposed to appear on Erin Burnett OutFront last night, but he cancelled at the last minute. He took to Twitter before the show to compare CNN and Wolf Blitzer to Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.
