After The Beatles special aired, commemorating The Fab Four’s arrival to America and debut on The Ed Sullivan Show, numbers soared on the Nielsen Soundscan chart for the Brit’s, seeing 13 titles scattered throughout the Top 200.
According to Variety the top title is the compilation album 1 with a 90% jump which tracked 18,000 copies and charting at No. 20. Other albums included the companion album to Cirque du Soleil’s Love, and recent releases including Live at the BBC Vol. 2 and U.S. iterations of the groups original releases.
The CBS special The Beatles: The Night That Changed America aired on February 9. As The New York Post noted there were some incredible highs, including bios of all the members, and of course Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr performing together, and some clunky spots, with Ed Sheeran’s less than noteworthy “In My Life” and Yoko’s awkward dancing.
Even with that, the love for The Beatle’s music obviously lives on, and with no end in sight expect more albums reaching higher numbers on the charts.
