The Church of England issued a warning Saturday stating that clergy should be warned against blessing gay marriage.
Gay marriage was legal as of just last year in England, Yahoo reports, but have had civil partnerships legal since 2005.
The House of Bishops, however, still struggle with the acceptance of same-sex marriage. While the Church cannot change government regulations, they still fight to have their church remain unchanged.
“It considers that it would not be appropriate conduct for someone in holy orders to enter into a same-sex marriage,” the bishops said in a statement.
Their views were widely discussed in their report, called “Men and Women in Marriage”.
In the report, according to Pink News, it does not relate same-sex or gay marriage. Rather, it refers to the marriage as “forms of human relationships which fall short of marriage in the form God has given us.”
The first of same-sex marriage in England are expected to begin in March.
