The animated film The Lego Movie was released on Friday, Feb. 7, and it has earned the most box office revenue for any film's opening weekend in 2014.
According to American Livewire, The Lego Movie earned $69.1 million in its opening weekend to take a gigantic lead in the box office standings.
The Lego Movie is a family-oriented movie about a construction worker named Emmet, voiced by Chris Pratt, who tries to protect the universe from the villain Lord Business, voiced by Will Ferrell.
Critics have widely praised the film, as shown by its Rotten Tomatoes rating of 95 percent. Morgan Freeman, Elizabeth Banks and Will Arnett also provided voices for the movie.
The Monument's Men, starring George Clooney, finished in a distant second behind The Lego Movie with $22.7 million in box office revenue, according to LA Times.
In contrast to The Lego Movie's family demographic targeting, this film was geared toward older audiences. 75 percent of those who viewed The Monument's Men were over 35 years old.
Rounding out the top five is Ride Along, Frozen and That Awkward Moment. They respectively earned $9.4 million, $6.9 million and $5.5 million.
