Who would of thought that clowning would be come uncool? Due to lack of interest and death of older clowns, America is running out of clowns.
According to New York Daily News, clown experts are afraid that one day there will be no more clowns.
Glen Kohlberger, president of Clowns of America International, said membership to his organization has fallen in the past decade.
“What’s happening is attrition,” Kohlberger said. “What happens is (kids) go on to high school and college and clowning isn’t cool anymore. Clowning is then put on the back burner until their late 40s and early 50s. The older clowns are passing away.”
According to CBS News, top performers from Cirque du Soleil can earn up to $200,000 a show. However, Cyrus Zavieh, the president of New York Clown Alley, added that clowns in his area can make up to $300 for a birthday party, which doesn’t incentivize younger people.
“American kids these days are thinking about different careers altogether,” said Zavieh. “They’re thinking about everything other than clowning.”
Although clowns are not going away just yet, the end of clowns may not be the worst thing that can happen to America.
