Law enforcement informed the website, Kickstarter, on Wednesday that they had been hacked. The hackers stole personal information such as email addresses and phone numbers from members of the crowdfunding site.
No financial information was compromised as the site does not retain full credit card numbers, only the last four digits. According to cnet the site said, "No credit card data of any kind was accessed by hackers. There is no evidence of unauthorized activity of any kind on all but two Kickstarter user accounts."
Although the hacking occurred Wednesday Kickstarter waited until the investigation ended on Saturday to inform users of the situation. According to computerworld the site is strongly advising users to change the password on their accounts for this site as well as any other site that uses the same password.
Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform that allows people to make donations to fund various projects. Since its launch in 2009 more than 50,000 creative projects have been funded.
