At least three people have died, seven have been rescued and two are still missing after a small boat capsized off the coast of southern Florida.
According to CNN, a Dutch naval vessel, headed towards Key West, Florida, alerted the U.S. Coast Guard when it came across an overturned ship on Thursday. After the seven were rescued from the water they found the bodies of the three deceased.
The Dutch sailors aboard the Zeeland noted that they saw “a capsized 24-foot center console vessel with seven suspected migrants atop the hull.”
The Coastguard has not yet confirmed where the people on board the small boat were headed or where they were coming from.
The New York Daily News has reported that the vessel was discovered 75 miles northeast of West Palm and that the boat, like the one that capsized, is usually used for sport fishing.
News of the rescue broke via social media, CNN notes.
An extensive search is underway for those still missing at sea.
