Toronto producers snap up film rights to Rob Ford book

If anyone is going to translate the bizarre story of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford to the silver screen, it might as well be movie producers who are based in Canada’s largest city. Blue Ice Pictures has announced that it picked up the film rights to Crazy Town: The Rob Ford Story by Toronto Star reporter Robyn Doolittle.

Daniel Iron and Lance Samuels will produce the film, reports the Globe And Mail. They did not provide any further details on the project.

“This is a story about the city in which I have lived my entire life and has great political, cultural and civic meaning to me,” Iron said in a statement.

According to the Associated Press, Doolittle was one of three Star journalists who saw the original video of Ford smoking crack cocaine that launched Ford into the international spotlight last year. Ford had tried to deny the allegations for months, until he did finally admit to using drugs. Since then, Ford’s wild antics have not stopped, even as he’s been under a microscope. He’s even about to launch a YouTube show. He is even seeking re-election.

Doolittle’s book was published by Penguin Canada. She was recently on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to promote the book.
