Though nothing was going to stop NBC and the Winter Olympics from dominating Wednesday night in the ratings, Fox's singing competition, American Idol, still proved quite competitive.
The Olympics slipped in its Wednesday night coverage from the equivalent date during the Vancouver Winter Games, but still easily won the night. According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC averaged a 5.6 in the 18-49 demographic and 20.8 million viewers.
The night featured the U.S. offering little competition in pairs skating, but managing gold and bronze medals in the women's halfpipe.
Fox was the second place finisher in the ratings off its two-hour block of American Idol, reports HitFix. Though down from last week, the Olympics did pull in a 3.4 in the demo and 11.425 million viewers.
ABC was third, with a 1.2 demo rating and 3.6 million viewers as the network moved to only air encores against the Olympic coverage on NBC.
CBS was third with a 0.9 in the demo and 5.005 million viewers. The network ran an encore of Sunday night's special The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles.
The CW pulled in 924,000 viewers and a 0.3 in the 18-49 demographic with the film Best in Show.
