U2 partnered with Bank of America in order to help raise money for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria and kicked off the new campaign with a Super Bowl advertisement that told fans if they downloaded the band's new single, "Invisible" a donation would be made to the foundation. Following the 36 hour free download window on iTunes the campaign raised over 3 million dollars.

The initial goal for the project was to raise 2 million dollars.

For fans that didn't take advantage of the free download they can purchase the song for $1.29 and all of the proceeds will be donated to the Global Fund as well, Billboard reported.

Rolling Stone magazine added that Since the (RED) foundation was created over $250 million dollars has been raised for the Global Fund.

Deborah Dugan, CEO of (RED) spoke about the growing need for this type of work to be ongoing and for donations to continue. "These are much-needed funds for the fight to end the AIDS pandemic in our lifetime and to get closer to the goal of eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV by 2015," said Dugan.
