One of the biggest names in rock n’ roll, U2 is set to release their highly anticipated album, their first in 5 years since 2009’s No Line on the Horizon, in the summer, which was actually later than the band first wanted.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter the band actually got sidelined by writing their Golden Globe winning, Oscar nominated “Ordinary Love” from the Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom film. “We were on a roll – it was clear where we were going," drummer Larry Mullen, Jr. told THR. “And a decision was made to abandon ship, more or less, to focus on this."
Rolling Stone reported U2 had been working with producer Danger Mouse, who is also half of music groups Gnarls Barkley and Broken Bells, had hoped to release their 13th album by December 2013 but “Ordinary Love”, and Mandela’s human rights cause, was a priority to the band.
U2 also just announced they will play “Ordinary Love” at the 86th Academy Awards on March 2. This completes all four nominees performing at the Oscars, including Yeah Yeah Yeah’s frontwoman Karen O singing “Moon Song” from Her, Idina Menzel singing “Let It Go” from Frozen, and Pharrell Williams performing “Happy” from Despicable Me 2.
