The hugely popular video game Minecraft is being adapted for the big screen by Warner Bros., who snagged the film rights.
According to Deadline, who first reported the news, many writers and filmmakers have already expressed interest in helping the studio bring the game to the big screen.
The Lego Movie producer Roy Lee and Dan Lin are on board to oversee the new project for Warner Bros. Jill Messick is also helping produce.
The studio clearly hopes that a Minecraft movie can be a huge franchise as the video game already has a large install base of over 100 million users.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that putting together a Minecraft movie will be similar to Lego Movie as the video game doesn't actually has a story, merely an open world for users to make whatever they are able to imagine.
Swedish game creator Markus Persson took to Twitter to announce the news himself. "Someone is trying to leak the fact that we're working with Warner Brothers on a potential Minecraft Movie. I wanted to be the leak!"
