Universal released the first film footage of Fifty Shades of Grey, a film adaptation of E.L. James’ highly popular erotica novel on Tuesday.
During Universal Pictures’ presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on March 25, Donna Langley Universal Pictures chairman showed off the footage.
According to The Hollywood Reporter Langley said, “Nobody outside the studio has seen a frame of footage.”
However, it all changed when she showed the clip. It is said to display Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan as their characters Anastasia and Christian Grey. The provided scene demonstrated the two characters first meeting in Grey’s office where the receptionist says, “Mr. Grey will see you now.”
ETOnline also mentioned that other scenes from the book were seen such as the hardware store which Anastasia worked at as well as two meeting in a coffee shop.
However, The Hollywood Reporter claimed that through the footage the film seems to be more on the romantic side than sexual. While the footage showed a scene of Johnson’s character in a red room, sporting a black blindfold, the scene apparently focused more on the couple wooing one another.
Despite the claim, there is one scene in which Dornan’s character seems to be on point with the erotica novel.
“Hearts and flowers—that’s not who I am,” the character Christian Grey says in the trailer, according to The Hollywood Reporter, before the audience sees him pushing Anastasia against a wall.
