A young man from New Jersey was able to get passed the security guards in the middle of the night and used a ladder to climb up the 1 World Trade Center.
ABC News reports that the 16-year-old was identified as Justin Casquejo. He was arrested at 6 a.m. on Sunday and is being charged with a misdemeanor of criminal trespassing. It was also reported that Casquejo took pictured of his daredevil adventure.
In a criminal complaint Casquejo told authorities about how he climbed up the building.
"I walked around the construction site and figured out how to access the Freedom Tower rooftop,” said Casquejo. “I found a way up through the scaffolding, climbed onto the 6th floor, and took the elevator up to the 88th floor. I then took the staircase up to 104th (floor). I went to the rooftop and climbed the ladder all the way to the antenna."
Patrick Flores, 18, isn’t surprised by Casquejo’s actions because he as always been adventurous.
"He was always the one climbing the cliffs, doing something stupid," said Flores. "But that was him, that was his life. I've seen him fall and hit his head and get up and walk away like it was nothing "
Casquejo is facing up to 15 days in jail for trespassing and up to 3 months in jail for the misdemeanor.
NY Post reports that the 16-year-old is taking the situation lightly as he laughed off the questions about his adrenaline pumping adventure.
“Ha ha, oh yeah, that. Right. I would really love to talk to you guys because I have a lot that I want to say about it,” said Casquejo. “I was told that I just can’t [talk] without permission.”
The guard who was working had fallen asleep and is now fired.
