Twenty-seven year-old Anthony Powe gruesomely murdered his father Darlington Powe and wounded his mother Alicia Powe with a pair of scissors at their Upper West Side home.

New York Post reports that Anthony suffered from the mental illness schizophrenia. He is facing numerous charges that include second-degree murder and assault. Anthony allegedly stabbed his father in the face and chest after an argument that they had.

A porter described what he heard from the intense murder scene. “I heard a woman screaming in the apartment below. I heard her say, ‘Stop, you’re going to kill him! Oh my God, no!’”

Anthony’s sister, Rochelle Powe, 44, was completely shocked when she heard the news about the vicious attack. Rochelle said despite Anthony suffering from schizophrenia he was not a violent person.

“I can’t believe it, I just can’t. I have no idea why he did this,” she said. “He isn’t well, but he was never violent. He loved my father. He didn’t know what he was doing.”

The New York Daily News added that Darlington, 71, was pronounced dead at the crime scene. Alicia, 56, was able to flee from the apartment. She was admitted to St. Luke’s Hospital for the injuries she received from the horrendous attack.
