A Connecticut woman who was attacked by a chimpanzee in 2009 pleaded with politicians Friday for the right to sue her home state for $150 million.
Charla Nash, 60, is now blind and had to have a complete face transplant after Travis the chimp snapped and attacked her. WNPR News reports that Nash made a statement at Friday’s hearing, saying that she could live more comfortably if she was allowed to sue the state.
“I’m hoping I can have a lawsuit that will allow me the means to pay my medical bills and the chance to live a comfortable life,” Nash said. “Just as important, I want to make sure that what happened to myself never happens to anyone again.”
Travis had attacked Nash back on February 16, 2009. According to the NY Daily News, the general public had believed that he was not a threat to anyone until that day. When police arrived at the scene, Travis was gunned down. It is believed that Travis may have panicked because Nash had a different hair style and he didn’t recognize her.
