Every year, the Oscar’s are hosted in Los Angeles. This Sunday’s show will be no different. The 86th Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theater on March 2, 2014.

The first telecast of the awards show took place in 1953. However, the award show was not just televised from LA but also from another famous city: New York, NY. What was the cause of these cities hosting double duty for the Oscar’s?

According to Yahoo! News, the award show was shot in both cities to accommodate actors starring in Broadway shows in New York. New York actors who were not able to attend the award show were still able to be a part of such a special night.

The first ever Oscars took place in 1929 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Though it was not telecast for a few more years, many stars attended to receive awards and partake in the biggest night for movies.

As announced by The official Oscar’s website,Ellen DeGeneres will return for the second time as she hosts this year’s Academy Awards on March 2 on CBS.
