Global company, Amazon, is rising the price of Amazon Prime to $99 per year. Amazon Prime members enjoy free-shipping within the United States and an access to unlimited Prime Instant Video service which features original programing and thousands of movies and shows to watch.
The increases might keep coming. Amazon has said it might consider making this 50% jump annually, a 50% jump, which next year would cost consumers $119, Variety reported.
Amazon explained that this was the first increase that customers had seen on Prime in over nine years. The company is also notifying consumers via email about the change in prices.
"Current members will still receive all the benefits of Amazon Prime, including unlimited FREE Two-Day Shipping for eligible purchases, unlimited streaming with Prime Instant Video, and the ability to borrow books from the Kindle Owners' Lending Library," said Amazon in their notice to consumers.
The company did not provide a reason for the increase however.
The New York Times reported that this price increase will start on April 17th.
