Book sales for 12 Years a Slave are on the rise after the movie’s stunning Oscar victory on Sunday.

It climbed the charts after the Academy Awards, moving from No. 326 to No. 19 on Amazon.com. The memoir was written by ex-slave Solomon Northup, according to the Associated Press.

12 Years a Slave took the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 86th Annual Academy Awards. It is the first movie to win Best Picture that is directed by a black filmmaker. According to Reuters, Director Steve McQueen said in his acceptance speech, "Everyone deserves not just to survive but to live. This is the most important legacy of Solomon Northup.”

12 Years a Slave was a favorite all year, also winning at the Independent Spirit Awards, BAFTA Awards, Boston Society of Film Critics Awards, and the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards. In addition to the Best Picture nod at the Oscars, the film won two other awards. It was an important victory for newcomer Lupita Nyong'o, who won her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The movie also won Best Adapted Screenplay.
