South by Southwest 2014 will premiere the highly anticipated Jimi Hendrix biopic called All is By My Side next week. For those short of patience, Rolling Stone has an inside look at the film based on guitar god, Jimi Hendrix.
In this clip, Andre 3000 of Outkast depicts Hendrix as he’s contemplating moving to London. His future manager, Chas Chandler, played by Andrew Buckley, tells him to make the move—London is where all the guitarists are playing bluesy music, according to Rolling Stone
The Outkast MC makes it clear that he spent countless hours studying Hendrix’s mannerisms, personality and voice. He tugs at his Afro, perfects his accent and nails his body language.
Austin’s Paramount Theatre will show the movie on Wednesday, March 12. Twelve Years a Slave writer, John Ridley, also wrote and directed the biopic and stated that the project began seven years ago upon discovering “Sending My Love to Linda." It was imperative that he learned more of Linda, who became close to Hendrix and encouraged him to work on his own material and was once Keith Richards’ girlfriend, as reported by Mirror TV
Unfortunately the film won’t include any of Hendrix’ music— it does not have the blessing from Hendrix’s estate. Instead, it will feature music from The Beatles, The Troggs, Muddy Waters and other artists of that time.
