Those who saw 2011's underrated horror-comedy Attack the Block will be pleased to know the details of director Joe Cornish's sophomore effort, Section 6 that will tell the story of the formation of British spy agency M16.
Cornish has been rumored to be attached to other projects, including Star Trek 3 and an adaptation of Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash, but this latest project is a sure thing, at least according to Aint It Cool News.
The plot of the film is a distinct departure from the fast paced inner-city sci-fi/horror/comedy mix that was Attack the Block. Section 6 has gone through a long period of finding the right director, and Cornish beat out Tom Hooper and David MacKenzie for the job.
Variety reports Jack O'Connell will co-star as a young protege of famed M16 agent Sir George Mansfield Cummings, the real life basis for James Bond character M.
The script, written by newcomer Aaron Berg, caused a huge bidding war last year, with Universal ultimately winning the rights. They hope to turn into a new franchise.
At any rate, it's good news for Cornish, and as a fan of Attack the Block, here's hoping he can keep that great comedic sensibility in a major blockbuster.
