Words With Action is the debut album from alternative rock band Avenue Army. The sixteen-track album is filled with pumped up grunge drumbeats that are entwined with catchy pop rock lyrics.

The Saint Paul, Minnesota band came together in 2009 when James Paulet and Max Eric Bergstrom lived together and realized their musical harmony. Avenue Army draws inspiration from The Beatles, Nirvana, Weezer, Modest Mouse, and The Cure.

The album opens with the single, “The Upside” that is a high-energy rock ballad that showcases the gritty guitar sound that is harmonious and vibrant. The passionate vocals bring the song to life, which makes it perfect for it to be the opening single.

The following single “Emily” and “Get Out of Summer” match the same fast paced tempo. “Get Out of Summer” has more of the pop rock round with its catchy chorus. This single is unique because it has an element of funk with how the bass luring you the guitar bringing the sound full circle. The song reminded me of Jimmy Eat World with its fresh and vibrant vibe.

In “I’m No Creep” I can see the Weezer influence with its raw rock sound and insightful narrative. The vocals are strong, sultry and harmonious and quite witty. It is a passionate song that shows a different side Avenue Army. “Only For You” is hands down my favorite song off the album. It’s a sweet rock ballad that brings to life their lyrics and musical ability.

Overall Words With Action is an enjoyable album that is filled with the rough alternative rock sound.
