After appearing on The Tonight Show and teasing fans worldwide with the news of his own channel on SiriusXM, Billy Joel has revealed the takeoff of The Billy Joel Channel—music and interviews from his 50-year-long career included.
At 6 p.m. on March 26th, the channel will go live and run until June 25th on channel 4 via satellite as well as online through the SiriusXM Internet Radio application, according to Rolling Stone. .
Music from Billy Joel’s entire career will be broadcasted—this ranges from the mid 60s work with The Echoes to his numerous classics and hit songs as a solo act. Joel’s upcoming live album, A Matter of Trust: The Bridge of Russia, which documents his 1987 Russian tour, will be featured on his channel. Aside from the well-known classics, the radio channel will play particular gems and unreleased material from Joel’s early days in performing.
There will be some talk segments in which Joel will discuss his career in depth as well as his ongoing stay at Madison Square Garden where hey plays a concert there every month until he decides to call it quits. Chats with Joel’s band and interviews with the piano man himself will be featured on the channel along with excerpts from his music class sessions, as reported by The Wall Street Journal .
Billy Joel told Jimmy Fallon, "I guess they want me to program some music that I like to listen to and talk about what we like to listen to on the road or what we do. I don't know. I guess I'm going to wing it." Joel continued to perform “You May Be Right,” which was accompanied by some fine air-saxophone skills by Fallon.
"I don't ever want to do the same show twice. We're bringing in some of the more obscure songs, but we do enough of the hits and songs that people know and stuff that we like to do. We're making it up all the time," Joel said when reflecting on his current residency at Madison Square Garden. In order to keep the crowd and himself entertained, Joel performed a special cover of AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long,” with Brian Johnson.
